Moving house tomorrow

One last day to pack, tie off loose ends, try to send as many email messages as possible because tomorrow morning I move into my new house and workspace. I won't have internet access for a few days because my internet provider doesn't "provide" in my street. We were hoping to get cable but it seems only 12% of Australia has cable and certainly not our little rural area, close as it is to Sydney.

I'm helping my family pack and we are really struggling with the heat - 42'C (107'F) yesterday and expecting higher today. I'm just hoping it doesn't rain on Friday when all my vast store of paper gets moved. In this entire saga of moving twice in a month, my greatest concern has been for the paper; except for the fate of my antique china in the hands of a very dodgy removalist. I always assumed that labels like "TOP", "FRAGILE", "NOTHING ON TOP", "THIS WAY UP" and "GLASS" were pretty obvious indicators but not to these cowboys. We've hired a different company for this move but the damage may have been done.

The main thing is that I get there. I suspect a dip in the pool will be first on the agenda to get us in the mood for unpacking. But right now I have work to do, packing, packing and more packing.

  1. good luck! Today I unpacked my great-grandmother's china which had survived three moves, never once leaving the boxes, so I hope yours is equally sound.

Funny, I don't know what to do with it so I am packing it back up!

  3. Hope your move goes well, and your china survives, Carol! At least it's the last move, so you can finally settle in.

Your post brings back memories of the recent move my husband and I made from White Rock, BC to Kamloops. I remember looking at the big moving van after the movers had barely managed to get all our stuff in it, and thinking "how can two people have so much stuff?"

  7. Hi Carol, Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to your latest comment on my blog. For some reason, blogger didn't forward the comments on to my inbox. Anyway I guess you've made your move and are getting things organised. Or perhaps you're just floating in the pool recovering? Awful weather lately - and it sounds like you've had it even hotter than us - although the humidity here is the worst I remember in years. Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing some photos of your new set-up. All the best!

As requested, I'm leaving you a comment to check your new email. Please email me and let me know your address, as I think I may have it down incorrectly.

I wonder why you couldn't get onto the blog yesterday? Old blogger must have been having issues....it certainly wasn't me!

I'm so glad you've finally got internet! I felt like you were soooo far away when you were without it! LOL Now your just a fingertip away again! ;-)

  15. Hi Carol, I know how hard transferring into a new house with lots of stuffs to carry with, packing and unpacking wastes hours to finish specially when you only got few storage containers, but, if its the best so you can settle in, that will a good start to meet day.

  17. Hi Carol, I don't have your email address, but just wanted to say thank you for yur comment. I didn't realise how much I needed to hear that it would all be ok soon from someone who is in the same boat... It's been over a month now without any of my stuff or a kitchen or a bathroom and I'm really ready for it to be back to normal soon! Hope all's going well for you too, and thanks again for your thoughts, they mean a lot x

  19. I couldn't find your email address, so I answered your question on my post, but in case you don't go back to it, I'll answer it here too:

I've used several different sizes of o-rings. It really all depends on how many pages you are going to put in your book and how thick it will be. And whether you're going to attach anything to the pages that will make it thicker. But probably the size I've used the most is 3/4".
