Joining Dave's App Recipes for April

Following on my swirls of yesterday I started with another Flowpaper swoosh around, just using my finger. I found a photo of bamboo that I'd taken with iPhoto, opened it in Moku HD.
Straight into Tiny Planets and tried various views then chose this.
I then blended the swirl and this bamboo pic and did a bit of finger tweaking to minimise the bamboo.
Finally another shot at Tiny Planets and I ended up with the Fan Dancer!
I'm not very good at making notes as I go along, so I'm sorry if there's not enough information. I do find my mind rushes on ahead and sometimes I end up with a result that is a complete mystery to me.
If you've missed joining Dave's App Recipes this month, there'll be another chance in May.

Fia's app recipes

Here is Fia, 6 years old and determined to get her own iPad. No chance, I'd say, for quite a few years but here are a couple of examples of her app art. The first had nothing to do with me, she was just experimenting. First, she found my PaperCamera photo of frangipanis.
This is after Fia's use of the app Percolator. She was very thrilled with the result. It's in reverse. I have no idea why or how.
Fia draws on the iPad and saves her pictures in Photos. This is a purpose drawn scribble because she saw me using Tiny Planets and fancied it.
She saved the drawing and was straight into Tiny Planets.
We ended up with about 10 versions and this was another one.
I can't wait to see what happens next.

App art, again

Using Flowpaper I chose an aqua background, swirled randomly with Brushes, then saved.
I opened Blender and put in the saved Flowpaper picture on one side and an earlier PaperCamera photo of spiky leaves. I chose Colour Burn, then blended and saved.
I opened that result in Tiny Planets, and just fiddled around until I found three versions I liked, rotating a couple of them then saving all three.
Then I opened Frame Magic and dropped the three photos into a three pic frame, then saved and used the Blogger app to send to my blog. Whew!

Don't forget to watch out on April 25th for Dave's App Recipe Book Project, April edition. Sophia (aged 6) and I will both be taking part.

A 4th birthday

Cilla is four. At last! To me it seems like only yesterday that she was three, but she's been waiting forever for this great day. We had lots of present opening and then a tea party for a few little girls. A really lovely day for a dear little girl and her excited brother and sister.
Yes, I've used an app but completely forgotten which one! Stage 1 of present opening...
Fia helps with the present opening...
The birthday dress...

The Dora birthday cake... and the little girls had real bone china tea cups and saucers, so it felt and looked very special...

Eddie caught by PaperCamera app enjoying the fun...

The beautiful autumn day was perfect for an outdoor tea party and we all had a wonderful time. Eddie's 3rd birthday will be next and it's sure to have more to do with cars than tea cups.

Here is my offering for today. Three photos that I apped so long ago that I can't remember what I used but I put them together using FrameMagic.
Well, the frangipani was taken with PaperCamera but the others are a bit of a mystery.

Meet Jill, Seth and Dave

I have to tell you the most exciting thing first. I have won this wonderful painting "Elemental VII" by Seth Apter. Thank you, Jill Zaheer, for your generosity.

Now, this is quite a complicated tale so I'll try not to confuse you. Seth Apter is not only an artist but has given hundreds of artists a platform to showcase their work, and to voice their thoughts about their art. His blog The Altered Page is a treasure among blogs. At the moment Seth has a new book called The Pulse of Mixed Media: Secrets and Passions of 100 Artists Revealed.

Every day in March Seth featured one of the artists in the book, and every day since then has featured another set of artists. Many of these artists had copies of Seth's book to give away, but I already had an e copy on my iPad, and also a hard copy coming (when Australia Post gets around to it), so I wasn't after the book. Visiting so many new (to me) artists was an eye opener and I really enjoyed getting an insight into the way different people interpret art, what they believe in and how they work. I left lots of comments and received lots of replies. Thanks Seth, for a great experience.

However, Jill Zaheer was giving away Seth's painting, on her blog JazWorks.  I was just amazed when Jill emailed to tell me Seth had chosen my number (comment 28) and that I'd won the painting. I've been a fan of Seth's for years so I have to say I was pretty chuffed! Jill's blog is colourful and joyous, as you can see from her header. Thank you so much Jill, for the painting, which I will treasure, but also for your emails which have been delightful.

Now for Dave. For those who are enjoying my app art, you may thank Dave. On the other hand, if you find it's getting a bit expensive buying all these new apps, go ahead - blame Dave! Actually it was Seth who sent me to Dave's blog, Clearer Reflections, so you see, there is some interconnectedness in this post. I've pinched this next bit from Dave's blog but he explains far more clearly than I do, so here goes:

"Dave's App Recipe Book - April, 2012 Edition

Just a quick announcement! The April 2012 edition of "Dave's App Recipe Book" will be taking place in a couple of weeks... this month's happening is Wednesday, April 25th. (Normally, these take place on the third Wednesday of the month...but I'll be out of town on the 17th!)
Everyone is invited to join in the fun. Here's how. All you have to do is:
1. Capture an image using an "idevice" camera app, digital camera, or analog camera (If you've used your digital or analog camera, you will then have to import this image into your iPhone, iPad, or Droid device.
2. Build an image using in-device apps. You can use as few as one app or as many as you like. (Even the Instagram filters will work!) You can use any app(s) you chose...and any theme you want. Oh...no "shopping" allowed!
3. One April 25th...post on your blog, website, or Flickr site your image as well as the "recipe" where you tell everyone how you create your wonderful pic.
4. Make sure to send me an email at clearer reflections@hotmail.com with the link to your posting and I'll include it in the Recipe Book.
5. If you have any questions, please send me an email!
This is a great chance to share your images and knowledge with everyone. So I hope you will join in!"

Dave puts up a photo a day, and I'm trying to do it most days. It really is a lot of fun, though my biggest problem is remembering which apps I've used because I get carried away and zap from one to another. Is that called App Zapping? Here's a quickie: Basil thinking about food. That's what beagles think about most. Taken with PaperCamera.
Well done, if you've made it to the end. Please visit Seth, Jill and Dave. They're well worth a look.

Frangipani app art

This frangipani was taken using PaperCamera, then put through Tiny Planets to give it a swirl. After browsing through PhotoToaster, I chose "Angry Pants" to finish it off. How could I go past such a name?

At the pigeon holes

Our Crested Pigeons [Ocyphaps (Geophaps) lophotes] had to check out the new galvanized shelves. They have two chicks and the adults are incredibly bold, wandering among the humans, dog, chickens and the cockatoos who hang out on this verandah.

Photo manipulated with PhotoToaster.

App art...

I'm having such a good time with my iPhone that I thought I should be posting a photo a day. As I usually fall by the wayside when I think I can blog daily, I hope I'm not just setting myself up to fail.

Today's photo started with a PaperCamera shot inside the foyer of a Philip Stark apartment building in inner Sydney. The building has been a newspaper printers in an earlier life and the foyer walls have huge photographic images of the original building.

I blended this with a photo of Basil Beagle (using Photo Blender) and this is the result. I think it adds an intellectual touch to Basil.

Please leave a comment if you like this and think I should do more app posts.

We have a winner

Velma is the winner of the book "handmade Books" and it will be going into the mail in the next few days. Congratulations Velma! There will be another book giveaway this month so watch out for it.

I've just spent a week in inner city Sydney - and managed some lunches, a dinner, a movie and a visit to my favourite art shop. I was cat sitting so here are a couple of pics of Kiki, my house mate for the week, as well as a frangipani flowering on the balcony. Photos taken with the iPad app PaperCamera. I love it!
